Why Tinubu needs a second term – Former deputy gov Shagari

A former deputy governor of Sokoto State, Mukhtar Shagari has said that President Bola Tinubu needs a second term.

Shagari while speaking on Arise Television said members and leaders of the All Progressives Congress have total confidence in the president to deliver the mandate of the party to Nigerians.

According to the former deputy governor, President Tinubu winning his second term is to the benefit of Nigerians.

“We in the APC have absolute confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s ability to run this country effectively. For President Tinubu to fulfil the promises he made to Nigerians, he needs a second term,” Shagari said.

Reacting to several opinions that the APC was turning Nigeria into a one-party state and the automatic presidential ticket granted the president ahead of the 2027 election, Shagari said the party has done nothing wrong.

Shagari stated, “Under the Nigerian Constitution, Nigerians have the right to associate and discuss issues relating to their interest and so on and so forth.

“In politics and in political party politics where you have an incumbent President or you have an incumbent governor, usually the party will not go and be looking for another person, the party will give the president or the governor the right to first refusal.

He added that every sitting president or governor is typically granted the right of first refusal of the party’s ticket in preparation for every election cycle.
