IGP takes over probe into death of Delta governor’s aide

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has taken over the investigation into the controversial death of Chief Shimite Love, the Special Adviser on Trade and Export to the Governor of Delta State.

Chief Love was reported to have died in the early hours of Easter Monday under circumstances that have since raised suspicion.

Her family has accused her husband of complicity in the incident, prompting a call for a higher-level investigation.

The development was confirmed by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on Monday in Asaba, the state capital.

“The family applied and the force headquarters came to take over the matter,” Edafe stated.

Following the family’s formal request, the case was transferred from the state police command to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for a more thorough investigation.

Earlier, the state command had disclosed that an autopsy had been conducted to determine the cause of death. Authorities say the result of the post-mortem examination is still being awaited.

The case has attracted public attention, with calls for justice and transparency in the ongoing investigation.
