The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it describes as the “worst era in Nigeria’s history,” citing escalating insecurity, economic hardship, and failed promises despite the financial gains from the removal of fuel subsidies.
Addressing journalists in Kaduna, the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Edward Percy Masha, said the APC-led administration both at the federal and state levels had failed Nigerians, accusing it of plunging the nation into its deepest socioeconomic crisis.
Masha said: “Despite the humongous accruals from the subsidy removal, Nigerians are experiencing their worst era under this APC government.
“In Kaduna State, where insecurity, hunger, unemployment and poverty were already severe, the removal of fuel subsidy was like a death sentence.”
Masha expressed the party’s resolve to hold the APC administration accountable and vowed that the PDP would reclaim political power in the state come 2027.
He pledged that future victories at the polls would not be compromised or stolen.
“In 2027, it will be the people versus the APC. Their push for a one-party state will not stand. We will mobilize the people to defend their mandate at all costs,” he stated.
The PDP chairman also took aim at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda and Governor Uba Sani’s administration in Kaduna, accusing them of making life more difficult for citizens.
He described the president’s inaugural declaration that “subsidy is gone” as a declaration of war on the Nigerian people.
Citing a 2025 report by the Grimm Institute, Masha lamented the rise in violent crime and insecurity, noting that between July 2023 and June 2024, 7,568 people were abducted in 1,130 incidents across the country.
His words: “Kaduna, along with Zamfara and Katsina, recorded the highest number of kidnappings. Kaduna alone witnessed 113 incidents and 1,113 victims.
“These three states also had the highest number of civilian deaths. In total, 1,056 people were killed in kidnapping incidents during the period.”
He challenged recent statements by the Kaduna State governor claiming improved security, saying the data and lived experiences of residents paint a starkly different picture.
“In areas like Kajuru, Kauru, Kaura, Birnin Gwari, and Chikun, banditry and kidnappings remain rampant,” he said.
Masha further alleged that the Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security had become a conduit for siphoning public funds.
He accused the ministry of failing to implement meaningful intelligence-gathering technologies and instead spending public resources on negotiating with terrorists.
“While citizens continue to suffer loss, bloodshed, and trauma, the government is pampering criminals with public funds under the guise of negotiations,” he concluded.
