
The former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar on Friday hailed Nigerians on celebration of the Eid-al-Adha.
Explaining the essence of the Eid celebration, especially for the Muslim faithful, Atiku said it is important for all to uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
According to the vice president, the Eid-al-Adha celebration is rooted in the traditions of Prophet Ibrahim.
He wrote on X, “The essence of Eid-al-Adha, rooted in the traditions of Prophet Ibrahim and upheld by Prophet Muhammad, calls us to reflect kindness and peace in our lives.”
In addition, the former vice president said it is important for leaders to be committed to the greater good of the people.
He added, “Leadership demands forbearance and commitment to the greater good.”
Atiku further appealed to Nigerian leaders – both appointed and elected – to show compassion to the people whom they have been called to serve.
He also urged the leaders to prioritize the welfare of the people, in accordance with God’s command.
The Eid-l-Adha is currently been celebrated by every Muslim across the world.
This followed the sighting of the moon in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria and the pronouncement made by the leadership of the Islamic community in the country.
The Federal Government also declared two days of public holiday for Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, to allow Muslims to celebrate the Eid-al-Adha.
