The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas has promised to revamp Songhai Integrated Farms in Rivers State.
Ibas after conducting an inspection tour of some projects in Tai and Obio-Akpo Local Government Areas said there is a need to boost the economy of the state.
He noted that the abandonment of various facilities in the state was taking a toll on the economy.
Ibas also said considering the food insecurity in the country, reviving the darn is an opportunity for the state to create a hub for sustainable agriculture.
He also said that reviving the farm would create jobs for the teeming youths across the state.
In addition to the farms, Ibas also inspected the Model Primary Healthcare Centre and the abandoned Primary School One in Bunu Tai.
Other facilities inspected by the Rivers Sole Administrator include the Mother and Child Hospital on Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway, and the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diagnostic Center in Rumuokwuta.
Following the tour, Ibas in a discussion with elders and stakeholders in the community decried the state of healthcare centres and agricultural facilities in Rivers.
“What we have seen today is not just neglect—it is a loss for our economy, our food security, and our future generations. The Songhai Farms, if fully operational, could transform livelihoods, yet the current state represents a missed opportunity for our people.
“Now that we have a full picture of the facility, we must move swiftly to engage stakeholders and investors. Their confidence depends on our collective commitment to protect their investments and ensure transparency,” Ibas said.
