Police rescues abducted travellers from bandits in Zamfara

Officers from the Zamfara State Police Command on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, rescued several travellers who were abducted by bandits along the Anka-Bukuyum road.

Counter-terrorism expert Zagazola Makama, citing security sources, said the police engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle during the operation, which took place in the evening.

According to Makama, the rescue followed credible intelligence on bandit activities along the route.

Police operatives swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the armed criminals in a gun duel, flushing them out of their hiding places and forcing them to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bush.

The rescued travellers were safely recovered, while the bandits escaped into the bush.
