The founder and pioneer chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu has revealed the reason behind the emergence of David Mark, a former Senate President as the new National Chairman of the party.
Nwosu said Mark was chosen to become ADC’s National Chairman with the sole aim of leading the party to Aso Rock, the seat of Nigeria’s presisent.
He said this at the maiden meeting of the ADC since its adoption as the opposition platform for the 2027 election.
The coalition championed by the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai among other leaders was created for the purpose of taking over power from President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Nwosu said, “We all decided to resign so that Mark can paddle this canoe and get us to the Villa.”
The coalition party also chose Rauf Aregbesola, a former minister of interior and ex-governor of Osun as the National Secretary of the ADC.
Further describing Aregbesola as a man of unparalleled service record, Nwosu said Nigerians are yearning for change.
“Nigerians are yearning for change. They are yearning for the coalition. I congratulate you both and assure you that working with the NWC and NEC members you will meet, you will have no problem.
“I will be talking as a floor member. My job will not end until we sing the national anthem in the Villa. That will be the real hope. Nigeria has been in the ICU. Lives are being lost every day. My appeal to the emerging political leaders is to take Nigeria from the ICU to global reckoning because we can!” he stated.
He further called on members of and leaders of the ADC – both old and new – to ensure they work together towards ensuring the coalition party achieves its aim.
“We can help Mark and Aregbesola by the way we conduct ourselves. Anybody who says anything against what we’ve done today is not an ADC member.
“We shouldn’t be apologetic. We need to be ready for this battle. More will come, but the way we are we will surmount them,” Nwosu added.
