
A former goalkeeper for the Super Eagles team, Peter Rufai is dead.
Rufai died at the age of 61, the Super Eagles said in a post on its X account on Thursday, June 3, 2025.
Super Eagles wrote on its handle, “We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion.
“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai,” Super Eagle stated.
Politics Nigeria gathered that the former goalkeeper died after a brief illness on Thursday.
Rufai was part of the Super Eagles team that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He was nicknamed Dodomayana by his supporters and teammates.
