
The Sokoto State government has called on the notorious bandit leader, Turji Bello to release all his abducted hostages.
The Security Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, Colonel Ahmed Usman (retired) said Bello should show his committment to peace in the state by releasing all those abducted by his gang members.
Usman said this while reacting to a viral audio made by Bello expressing interest in dialoging with the state.
He said it is also important for the bandit leader to halt all attacks and kidnappings of rural communities across the state.
However, stating that the Sokoto government welcomes the interest shown by the bandit leader.
Usman said, “If Turji truly wants peace, he must first release all abducted persons unconditionally and stop the violence.”
He also stated that the safety of the communities in the state is paramount for any meaningful dialogue to take place.
According to Usman, there is no need for residents of the state to continue to live in fear while Bello talks about peace.
He further stated that no form of criminality would be tolerated as the government is open to genuine peace talks.
Usman called on traditional and religious leaders, civil society groups to work with the state for the push for stability and lasting peace in the state and the region.
