Peter Obi visits Kano fire victims, donates to mosque renovation

Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has declared that Nigeria must continue to support its religious and economic institutions to foster unity and national development.

Obi, who was in Kano on Thursday, said he visited the families of the late business mogul, Aminu Dantata, and late elder statesman, Maitama Sule.

He also joined congregants for Juma’at prayers at Triumph Mosque, where he redeemed a donation pledged earlier for the mosque’s renovation.

He wrote on X: “Our places of worship are vital pillars in our communities to build unity, and we should endeavour to support them.”

Obi later visited the Kano Farm Centre GSM Market, which was recently gutted by fire, destroying shops and sources of livelihood for several traders.

He commended Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, for visiting the scene and promising to rebuild the market.

His words: “I deeply appreciate the governor of Kano state for personally visiting the scene and for his commitment to rebuilding the market.

“His show of compassion and support for the affected SMEs is very commendable.”

He said he interacted with affected traders and sympathised with their losses.

“What they need now is urgent support and lasting solutions. The growth of our economy rests heavily on the strength of small and medium businesses,” he said.

Obi further called for leadership that is responsive and visible in times of crisis.
