Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, a former deputy governor of Lagos State has called for the cancellation of the Local Government Council elections in the state.
Bucknor-Akerele cited irregularities and disenfranchisement of voters during the election which took place on Saturday, July 3, in 20 LGAs and 37 local council development areas of the state.
Expressing displeasure over her inability to vote at her polling unit during the election.
According to the former deputy governor, her name did not appear on the voters’ registrar.
Her words, “I have been to my own unit, my name is not there. I am calling for the cancellation of this election because there’s a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party, because otherwise, why is it that people are not able to vote in their units?”
Alleging a plot to disenfranchise voters, the former deputy governor called on the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission to cancel the election.
“There is a clear effort to rig the election in favour of one party. Many people are not able to vote because they have completely disrupted all the polling units,” Bucknor-Akerele said.
