The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has described the late Nigeria’s former president, Muhammadu Buhari as a leader who was full of wisdom and warmth.
Modi, in a post on X, commiserated with the government of Nigeria and its people over the passing of the former president.
Former President Muhammadu died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in London.
According to his family and the government of Nigeria, the former president died after a brief illness at the hospital.
Reacting to Buhari’s passing, Modi said the late former president was committed to good relations between Nigeria and India during his administration.
Expressing sadness over Buhari’s death, Modi extended his heartfelt condolences to Nigeria.
He wrote, “Deeply saddened by the passing of former President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari.
“I fondly recall our meetings and conversations on various occasions. His wisdom, warmth and unwavering commitment to India–Nigeria friendship stood out.
“I join the 1.4 billion people of India in extending our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people and the government of Nigeria,” the Indian PM added.
