JUST IN: NDC Makes Revelation, Clarifies Position on Fubara’s 2027 Governorship Bid

The Director of New Media and Strategic Communications for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Theo Abu Agada, has clarified that Blessing Fubara Snr, the elder brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, is not the party’s gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State.
Agada made the clarification in response to media reports claiming that Fubara had been selected as the party’s standard-bearer.
Reacting to a story on X, Agada stated, “This person is not the candidate of our party in Rivers. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
The clarification follows a Friday night interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time program, after which several media outlets misidentified Blessing Fubara Snr as the NDC’s official governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
During the broadcast, Fubara dismissed assertions that his political ambition is an extension of his younger brother’s administration, stating that they possess different political ideologies and individual perspectives.
Fubara said: “I don’t have a godfather but I have God the father. You would also agree with me that if my ambition is determined by the grounds you are mentioning, it would mean I have no clear vision or focus for what I am working toward.
“My brother, Nigerians, and indeed the wider world saw what happened between him and his party. We have different political ideologies and individual perspectives. It’s a trying moment for us in Rivers State and there are all sorts of narratives. They come with different narratives and try to set up a perspective for the people to run with but we are focused with our eyes on the ball that the sole of Rivers State must be rescued.”
The Rivers State governorship ticket of the NDC was contested during the party’s primary elections in May 2026. The two main aspirants are Alabo Dumo Lulu-Briggs, a prominent businessman and former PDP/Accord stalwart who campaigned across the 23 local government areas, and Blessing Fubara Snr.
Although the primary voting took place in May, the NDC national leadership and the state secretariat are yet to issue an official announcement of the results.
