JUST IN: “We’re Expecting Him back” – PDP Nat’l Chairman Damagum Reacts to Atiku’s Exit

The Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ambassador Iliya Damagum, has reacted to the recent resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the party, saying it is not the first time and that the PDP is expecting his return.

“This is not the first time; we’re expecting him back,” Damagum told journalists on Friday in Bauchi.

According to him, Atiku’s decision to leave the party is a familiar pattern, as he has previously defected and returned to the PDP on several occasions. Damagum said the party views his latest resignation as a strategic political move, rather than a permanent departure.

Atiku, who was PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, has a history of switching political platforms. He left the PDP for the Action Congress in 2006, returned in 2009, joined the APC in 2014, and came back to the PDP in 2017 to pursue his presidential ambitions.

The former vice president is now involved in a new political coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ahead of the 2027 elections.
