JUST IN: Trouble for Abure as Labour Party NEC elects new Interim National Chairperson

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party has elected a former minister, Nenadi Usman as its interim national chairperson.

Usman was elected as the party’s national chairperson on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The Labour Party also announced the appointment of Darlington Nwokocha as the party’s Interim National Secretary.

Usman and Nwokocha were elected alongside other members of the party’s interim working committee.

The decision by the Labour Party to elect the party’s leaders took place in Abuja during its NEC meeting.

It was gathered that the interim working committee has been saddled with the responsibility to oversee all party activities until the Labour Party’s convention.

According to the party, a new NEC will be conducted at the convention.

In addition, the party also ordered the approval of the schedule for the conduct of ward congresses, local government area congresses, state congresses, Zonal congresses, and the Labour Party’s National Convention.

The party’s secretariat has also been directed to ensure that the guidelines and timelines for the convention are published.

This, the Labour Party said will ensure transparent and democratic elections at all levels.
