JUST IN: PDP reacts after assassination attempt on party’s Anambra guber candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attempt on the life of its Anambra governorship candidate, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, by unknown gunmen in Abuja.

Ezenwafor was reportedly ambushed and shot at while returning from an appointment, sparking outrage across the PDP and among concerned Nigerians.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP described the incident as a desperate move by anti-democratic forces threatened by the growing popularity of its candidate ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

“After a critical analysis of the violent incident, the PDP believes that certain interests who are clearly uncomfortable with the growing acceptance of our candidate are behind this cowardly attack,” the statement read.

The party also alleged fresh plots to launch coordinated smear campaigns against Ezenwafor following the failure of the assassination attempt.

“This attack is another tragic reflection of the deepening insecurity and lawlessness under the grossly incompetent, corrupt and rudderless APC-led administration,” it said.

Reaffirming its support for Ezenwafor, the PDP declared that no amount of violence, propaganda, or intimidation will stop the will of the Anambra people from prevailing at the polls.

The party called on the Inspector General of Police to launch a swift and thorough investigation, arrest the perpetrators, and provide enhanced security around the candidate.

“Our candidate is divinely destined and enjoys the overwhelming support of the people. He will emerge victorious,” the party said.

The PDP urged Ezenwafor to remain focused and undeterred, asserting that Anambra is a PDP stronghold and that the people are resolved to elect a transparent, people-oriented administration.
