El-Rufai warns ADC youth group against attributing false statements to him

Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai has warned a political support group, ADC Vanguard, against fabricating statements and attributing them to him.

In a post on his official X handle on Thursday, El-Rufai said he would disown such remarks, stressing that while he has platforms to air his views, he never made the comments being circulated.

His words: “Dear ADC Vanguard, please stop fabricating statements and attributing them to me. I have my own social media accounts where I can share my views and opinions.

“I am going to disown the statements you created and attributed, not because I necessarily disagree with the message, but because I never made them. That is not the honest way to represent our party or gain traction. Please stop it forthwith.”

His reaction followed a now-deleted post by ADC Vanguard, which had quoted him as describing President Bola Tinubu’s administration as “Nigeria’s most corrupt and dishonest government” that had mastered “the act of looting shamelessly while deceiving confidently.”

The group later issued an apology, acknowledging its misstep.

“Dear Mallam El-Rufai, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused. It was never our intention to misrepresent or attribute statements to you.

“We respect your voice and your platforms as the proper channels for your views,” ADC Vanguard said.

The group added that it would, going forward, rely only on verified and authentic sources in its communications, while appreciating El-Rufai for pointing out the issue “clearly and respectfully.”
