Activist and Lawyer Deji Adeyanju has intensified his war of words with former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He declared that Obi should “add political prostitute” to the list of defamatory claims set to be filed against him in court.
Adeyanju made the remark during a live interview on Channels Television on Friday, insisting that Obi must be ready to face criticism for aspiring to the nation’s highest office.
He accused Obi’s supporters of hypocrisy, noting that while they freely criticise President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and the judiciary, they resist any scrutiny of their principal.
“Obi should do his worst,” Adeyanju said, adding that the lawsuit followed a spat in which Obi’s aide, Serah Ibrahim, allegedly insulted his wife for criticising Obi.
The latest outburst comes after Obi, through his lawyer Alex Ejesieme (SAN), served a letter of demand on Adeyanju over what he described as repeated defamatory publications. Obi’s legal team accused the activist of persistently posting false and malicious statements on X, Facebook, and other platforms aimed at portraying him as corrupt, fraudulent, and intolerant.
Among the claims cited were allegations that Obi diverted state funds into family businesses, attempted to bribe individuals after private meetings, and exploited religion during the 2023 elections. Adeyanju was also accused of branding Obi “the leader of a mob” and “a scum.”
The legal notice demanded that Adeyanju retract the posts, apologise publicly across his social media accounts, and publish apologies in three national newspapers. It warned that failure to comply within seven days would lead to a lawsuit seeking aggravated damages, an injunction, and recovery of legal costs.
The letter said: “The statements have been widely disseminated, causing untold damage to our client’s reputation and integrity.”
