An attack by Boko Haram insurgents on the Maiduguri–Banki road in Borno State has left persons injured.
It was gathered that the suspected terrorists launched an attack on a commercial bus travelling along the road.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism expert in a post shared on X said, the terrorists ambushed the vehicle at about 2.30 pm in Wudila, a deserted village near Banki.
According to Makama, the terrorists during the attack opened fire on the Toyota Hiace bus.
“The attackers opened fire on a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number ASU-255-XA, driven by Mustapha Adam, 50, of Wajare, Banki. Adam sustained a gunshot wound to his back.
“Other injured passengers include Musa Mohammed, 41, of Taradal Banki, who was shot in the left hand; Mohammed Bukar Gaji, 61, of Wajare, who fractured his hand after falling from the vehicle; Modu Usman, 35, of Amchide in Cameroon, who suffered a neck gunshot wound; and Mohammed Adam, 32, of Bama, who sustained internal injuries to his ribs,” Makama said.
In addition, he added that some military troops under the Operation HADIN KAI were mobilised to the scene.
Some other troops were also deployed to man the said route to prevent further attacks by the terrorists.
“The insurgents fled before security reinforcements arrived.
“All victims were evacuated to the FHI 360 Clinic in Banki. Three have been treated and discharged, while two remain hospitalised and are responding to treatment. No deaths or property loss were recorded,” he added.
