Former lawmaker announces planned defection, embarks on 31-day prayer, fasting

A former Senator of the National Assembly, Elisha Abbo on Friday announced his plan to leave his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abbo who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District at the 10th Senate said taking a decision on the political party to join has been difficult for him.

In a post made on X, he said that when he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC in 2020, he did not have any need to pray about it.

According to him, he left the PDP for the APC following his conviction that such a move was the best for him at the time.

He said, “In 2020, I left PDP to APC without praying and asking for God’s directions on which party to join. I left due to tangible reasons and raw instincts and joined APC out of human judgment and to flow with the tide.”

However, speaking about his need to seek a better political platform, Abbo said he has embarked on a 31-day prayer and fasting.

He noted that he embarked on this prayer and fasting journey to seek direction from God on his political career among other things.

He also promised his supporters that an official statement would be released once his mind is made up.

He wrote, “This time around, I undertaken a 31-day fasting and prayers seeking for direction among other things I asked God to do for me.

“In a few weeks time, a tentative official statement will be issued by my humble self after due final consultation with my people on what the spirit told me

“I am no longer moved by sight, sweet words, emotions or just mere instincts. I am now moved by the spirit of God and calm spirited negotiations. The Lord God directs the steps of the righteous.

“Good morning and Jumaat Mubarak to Muslim faithful. Remember both Prophets Ishmael and Isaac are children of Abraham. We share the same grandfather,” Abbo said.
