Several people are feared to have been killed in a boat accident in Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
It was gathered that the accident occurred on Thursday evening with scores of passengers on board the boat.
Residents who spoke on the incident said this particular accident is the third one within one month.
Another resident said the boat had capsized halfway into its journey in the river, throwing all of its passengers and the driver into the water.
Aminu Bodinga, the special adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on the State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident.
Bodinga noted that officials of SEMA, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the National Inland Waterways Authority are already at the scene of the incident for the rescue operation.
The state is however yet to confirm the specific number of passengers who were onboard the boat when the accident happened.
