JUST IN: Bandits, community leaders sign peace accord in Katsina [PHOTOS]

Following the incessant killings and kidnappings in Katsina State, community leaders and bandits operating in Kurfi Local Government Area have signed a peace agreement.

The agreement signed on Thursday is aimed at ending the years-long violence, killings and cattle rustling which have bedevilled the LGA.

Sources said that the signing of the agreement, championed by Alhaji Mansur Amadu Kurfi, the Maradin Katsina and district head of Kurfi, took place at Wurma forest, a hotspot for insecurity in the state.

The agreement was also signed with the collaboration of the local government chairman, Babangida Abdullahi Kurfi.

Some of the bandit leaders present at the venue include Alhaji Usman Kachalla Ruga, Sani Muhindinge, Yahaya Sani (Hayyu) and Alhaji Shu’aibu.

The bandit leaders vowed to cease hostilities, release those in their captivity and allow farmers to return to their lands without fear of harm or attack.

In the same vein, leaders of the community pledged to partner with the bandits to rehabilitate schools and hospitals and ensure fair treatment of detained members.
