Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has said his ministry will on Wednesday (today) receive the Madagascar COVID-19 herbal remedy from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.
Speaking on a programme on Channels TV, Ehanire said as soon as the ministry takes delivery of the drug, it will be sent to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and then to the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD).
The minister said the reason his ministry is receiving the drug today because the Federal Government had declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.
However, Ehanire was silent on why the Presidency had yet to send the samples to the ministry for testing.
He said: “The Madagascar herb is supposed to be handed over to the Ministry of Health on the next working day.
“That’s when we will pick it up and then send to our research institutes, first of course to NAFDAC and then to the Nigeria Institute of Pharmaceutical Research and Development to look into it and tell us what it is.”
