More than 10 people involved in a road accident on the Benin–Auchi highway on Saturday were rescued through the intervention of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.

The governor, who was travelling with his entourage to Irrua in Esan Central Local Government Area, encountered a major gridlock after the bypass and alighted to assess the situation.

On reaching the accident scene, he found several victims in critical condition, many bleeding heavily, while bystanders looked on helplessly.

Moved by their plight, Governor Okpebholo ordered two of his security Hilux vehicles to convey the injured to hospital.

He personally supervised the evacuation, ensuring that each victim, including a woman with severe injuries, was lifted into the vehicles and rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred when the driver of a white Toyota Venza, with registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW, drove against traffic, colliding with three fully loaded commercial minibuses.

The impact left many injured and caused a traffic standstill.

The governor remained at the scene until he confirmed that the victims had been taken to hospital under the escort of another security vehicle, before continuing his journey. His swift response drew applause from motorists, residents, and sympathisers.
