A man, identified as Isiaka Hassan has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for killing a five-year-old boy.
The police said Hasaan, 29, allegedly committed the crime in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command, Superintendent of Police Suleiman Yahaya said the victim has been identified as Abba Bashiru.
According to Yahaha, Bashiru was reported missing on August 30, by his mother, Hadiza Bashiru.
He said Hadiza of Tingno community had informed the police that Hassan was the last person her son was seen with.
“On the strength of that, the command’s operatives led by the Divisional Police Officer, Tingno, swiftly led an operation and arrested the said Isiaka Hassan, who during interrogation confessed to having conspired with one, yet to be arrested, to kill the boy and bury him in a shallow grave,” Yahaya said.
Noting that the child’s body has been exhumed and deposited at the morgue for onward autopsy, Yahaya said the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has ordered the State CID to take over the investigation.
The CP also ordered the arrest of Hassan’s accomplice who is currently at large.
“The Command reassures members of the public of its commitment to ensure justice is served and calls for continued cooperation in the fight against violent crime across the State,” Yahaya said.
