JUST IN: Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala joins Saudi’s Al Hilal on two-year deal

Super Falcons forward Asisat Oshoala has completed a transfer from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) side Bay FC to Saudi Women’s League club Al Hilal on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old joined Bay FC in February 2024 following a trophy-laden spell at Spanish giants FC Barcelona Femení.

She underwent her medical on Monday night and is set to begin a new chapter in her illustrious career.

Oshoala missed Bay FC’s 2-1 defeat to Angel City on Monday, with The Athletic reporting that “Bay FC and Al Hilal have reached an agreement on an undisclosed transfer fee, and Oshoala is now in Saudi Arabia ahead of a medical scheduled for tonight.”

During her time in the United States, Oshoala made 25 top-flight appearances, starting 23 games, scoring seven goals, and providing one assist last season.

Across all competitions, she featured in 38 matches, netting eight goals.

Her playing time at Bay FC had decreased, with head coach Albertin Montoya attributing this to her adaptation to the NWSL’s playing style and defensive requirements.

“In this league you have to adapt defensively,” Montoya said, noting that Oshoala’s limited minutes were part of her adjustment process.

The move to Al Hilal offers Oshoala a chance to revitalise her career.

The six-time Women’s Africa Player of the Year has played for top clubs across Europe, Asia, and the USA, and was part of the Super Falcons squad that clinched a record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco in July.
