JUST IN: El-Rufai Storms Imo, Meets Igbo Monarch [VIDEO]

Former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Friday arrived in Imo State allegedly for a political engagement.

The former governor paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Eze (Dr.) Stephen Kemjika Agumanu IV, Ede II of Nekede Autonomous Community, traditional custodian of the Nekede Ancient Kingdom.

El-Rufai, who was received with traditional rites, joined in the kolanut ceremony at the monarch’s palace. Speaking afterwards, he described the kolanut tradition as a symbol of Nigeria’s interconnectedness. According to him, kolanut is grown in the West, celebrated in the East, and consumed largely in the North, adding that this reflects the diversity and unity that should bind Nigerians together.

He commended the cultural heritage of the Nekede people and thanked the monarch for his hospitality, describing the visit as an opportunity to strengthen bonds of friendship across regions.

The visit comes barely 24 hours after the Kaduna State Police Command invited the former governor for questioning over alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.

A police letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Uzainu Abdullahi, directed that El-Rufai and six leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) appear at the State CID on September 8.
