JUST IN: INEC makes fresh move over ongoing CVR exercise in FCT

The ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise across the Federal Capital Territory has been devolved to the ward level.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC made the disclosure on Friday, September 5.

In a statement issued by the commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the decision is in line with the Commission’s policy ahead of major off-cycle elections in the country.

According to Olumekun, the same was done in various off-season elections in Ondo and Edo in the 2020 governorship election as well as the forthcoming Anambra guber poll.

He added that the physical registration exercise has been conducted across the six area councils within the FCT.

Olumekun said the process will now be extended to the 62 wards across the FCT.

This he said would bring the total number of registration centres to 69 with the exercise running between Monday, September 29 and Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

How also noted that the inline registration for residents of the FCT will be suspended on Monday, September 15, to allow all online applicants to complete their registration in person.

The FCT Area Council election is scheduled for Saturday, 21st February 2026, after which the registration exercise will resume.
