JUST IN: Oba of Benin declares fasting, prayer to ward off evil in Edo

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Ewuare II, has directed indigenes and residents of Edo State to observe a two-week fasting and prayer session to ward off evil and ensure peace in the land.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia, the monarch announced that the spiritual exercise will run from 15 to 28 September 2025.

The revered traditional ruler urged all Benin sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, as well as residents of Edo State, to participate in the programme.

“This is in line with our age-long tradition that before the commencement of the yearly new yam, it is important to fast and pray to God Almighty and the royal ancestors for bountiful harvest, protection from sudden death, and peace in our homes, families, state and nation at large,” the statement read.

The fasting, according to the Oba, will be observed daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The monarch prayed for God’s blessings, peace and happiness upon all participants throughout the two-week exercise.
