JUST IN: NCAA summons 13 domestic airlines over flight cancellations, delays

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned 13 domestic airlines to an emergency meeting in Abuja over the surging wave of flight delays and cancellations troubling passengers nationwide.

Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, confirmed the meeting will take place at the agency’s headquarters on Wednesday.

The regulator said the meeting will focus on unresolved refund and compensation complaints, poor passenger handling, enforcement of safety protocols like mobile-phone switch-offs, introduction of RFID bag tags and flight-monitoring tools, and overall improvements to travel experience.

Achimugu lamented that passengers are often stranded late at night without care or accommodation, leaving NCAA officers to handle aggrieved travellers and exposing them to unnecessary risk.

He said such situations will no longer be tolerated by the NCAA henceforth.

The NCAA has also vowed to begin “naming and shaming” carriers that flout aviation regulations, especially those abandoning passengers without due care.
