Senate Minority Leader Reveals Three Key Politicians Considered for PDP 2027 Ticket

Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has disclosed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is weighing three prominent southern politicians as possible contenders for its 2027 presidential ticket.

He made the disclosure during a programme on AIT.

Moro named former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde among those being considered.

Recall that the PDP had zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Moro noted that all three individuals mentioned have roots in the PDP, with Obi having left the party in 2022 after what he described as perceived injustice in the zoning arrangement.

“Now that the position has been zoned to the South, Peter Obi is welcome to return and join the race,” Moro said, adding that Jonathan and Makinde also remain viable options given their stature and influence.

He added that more names are likely to emerge in the coming months.

Moro also linked the recent defection of some members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to dissatisfaction with the PDP’s decision to throw its 2022 presidential ticket open, a move he said created internal rifts the party is still trying to resolve.

“The PDP remains a grassroots political party with many qualified Nigerians in the South,” he said. “At the end of the process, we will put forward a candidate that will give the ruling party a run for its money.”
