Abuja-based lawyer Victor Giwa has been arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos.
Giwa was declared wanted by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo earlier this week.
On September 15, Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Giwa and his co-defendant, Ibitade Bukola Olugbenga, after they failed to appear in court for arraignment on charges of forgery and impersonation.
Police sources confirmed that Giwa was picked up in Lagos on Friday and is currently being held at the Zone 2 police headquarters.
He is expected to be transferred to Abuja on September 22 in compliance with the bench warrant.
The Inspector-General of Police had filed a three-count charge marked CR/150/25, accusing Giwa and Olugbenga of conspiring to forge a document purportedly issued from the chambers of Awa U. Kalu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The police said the forged document was intended to mislead the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Olugbenga, who is also wanted under the same bench warrant.
The case has been adjourned to October 8, when both defendants are expected to appear before Onwuegbuzie to answer to the charges of conspiracy, forgery, fraudulent execution of documents, and false personation of a legal practitioner.
