JUST IN: Gov Uzodimma Rushes Last-Minute Facelifts in Imo as Tinubu Visits Today

Governor Hope Uzodimma has carried out rushed facelifts at various locations in Owerri, the Imo State capital, ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state today.

The President is in the state to inaugurate key projects executed by the Governor.

Owerri’s streets have been decorated with fresh posters and giant billboards bearing Tinubu’s image.

Some were mounted by political groups and individuals who used the opportunity to show support for his 2027 re-election ambition.

Residents expressed mixed feelings but many were eager to host the president. “We’re ready to welcome Tinubu as he’s visiting Imo State,” said Geoffrey Nwosu, a resident in Owerri. Another, Chimuanya Ihedinoha, described the trip as “an honour that the highest leader in Nigeria is visiting our state.”

Security across Owerri has been tightened ahead of the visit. Heavily armed personnel of the Nigerian Army and police have been stationed at strategic points.

Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed that a “water-tight security arrangement” had been put in place across entry routes and major venues of the event. He warned that anyone caught attempting to disrupt peace “will be promptly arrested and prosecuted.”

The Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, also assured citizens of safety and urged them to report suspicious activities during the president’s stay.

The president is expected to commission the reconstructed Owerri–Mbaise–Obowo–Umuahia Road, a newly completed flyover linking Port Harcourt and Onitsha Roads, as well as the remodelled Assumpta Cathedral Roundabout. He will also declare open the refurbished Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre.

In addition, Tinubu will unveil Uzodimma’s new book titled “A Decade of Impactful Progressive Governance in Nigeria.” This marks his second trip to Imo as president, following his earlier visit in January 2024.

Recall that President Tinubu last visited Imo in January last year, where he attended Uzodimma’s swearing-in ceremony for his second term.
