Northern Presidential Hopeful Issues Warning Over Terrorist Takeover Ahead of 2027

A presidential hopeful, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has raised alarm over the growing threat of terrorists consolidating control in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.

Olawepo-Hashim made the disclosure in a statement he personally signed.

He described the situation as a ticking time bomb, warning that extremist groups are pushing to strengthen their grip in the region.

According to him, the danger could destabilize the entire nation if urgent steps are not taken.

He commiserated with families of those killed in the recent bandit assault on Oke Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, where 15 people, including vigilantes and the community head, lost their lives.

Also, the presidential hopeful demanded swift military intervention to secure the release of those abducted in the attack.

Olawepo-Hashim disclosed that he had earlier discussed the worsening insecurity with Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, in his capacity as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
He noted that the scale of the crisis has far exceeded what states alone can manage.

“The Oke Ode massacre is a tragic reminder of the escalating threat,” he said, linking it to similar bloody incidents across Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, Baruteen, and Pategi.

He accused those in power of being complacent despite clear warning signs. “It is tragic that those in power appear disconnected from this rapidly emerging danger. Many communities remain vulnerable and unprotected,” he lamented.

The politician urged the federal government to launch well-coordinated and professional security operations to stop terrorists from gaining full control of ungoverned spaces.
