BREAKING: Anti-Graft Commission to Investigate Ganduje over N4 Billion Inland Port

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has opened a fresh probe into the alleged diversion of more than ₦4 billion of state funds during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, linked to the development of the Dala Inland Dry Port project.

The investigation follows petitions from concerned citizens alleging that the Ganduje administration unlawfully redirected state funds to finance infrastructure at the port after Kano’s equity stake in the project was controversially transferred to members of the former governor’s family.

Equity Transfer Raises Questions

Sources close to the commission revealed that around 2020, Kano State’s 20% equity in the Dala Inland Dry Port was allegedly converted to private ownership under the control of Ganduje’s children. This maneuver reportedly removed the state as a co-owner of the multi-billion-naira investment while positioning members of the Ganduje family as directors and shareholders in the company.

Despite the loss of ownership, the state government was alleged to have subsequently spent over ₦4 billion on contracts for the provision of infrastructure at the port — a move critics describe as “a brazen misuse of public funds for private gain.”

Probe Nears Completion

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Sunday, PCACC Chairman Saidu Yahya confirmed the investigation, describing it as “top-level and nearing conclusion.”

“Yes, we received petitions from the public on the alleged diversion of over ₦4 billion of Kano State funds into the Dala Inland Dry Port by the immediate past administration,” Yahya said.

According to him, several individuals linked to the deal have been invited for questioning, with one suspect arrested and later granted bail after providing key information to investigators. Yahya disclosed that another person of interest has been traced to Yola, Adamawa State, where efforts are underway to secure their cooperation.

Court Action Imminent

Yahya further stated that the commission has established a prima facie case in the matter and plans to file charges in court upon completion of the probe.

“The investigation has reached an advanced stage. We have gathered substantial evidence, and the matter will soon be taken to court,” he added.

This latest investigation adds to the growing list of corruption allegations facing Abdullahi Ganduje, who served as Kano State governor between 2015 and 2023. The former governor has repeatedly denied allegations of financial misconduct, dismissing them as politically motivated.

The Dala Inland Dry Port project, conceived as a strategic hub to boost trade and logistics in northern Nigeria, has been mired in controversy for years due to ownership disputes, delays, and funding irregularities.
