Troops of the Operation Lafiya Nakowa under the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) on Thursday, October 9, foiled an attack by some bandits in Taraba State.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, the spokesperson for the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, the troops deployed to Tapga Ngasawa Village received intelligence information about the activities of the bandits in the area.
According to Muhammad, residents around the Majebiyu Village in Ibi Local Government Area informed the Armg about the invasion of some suspected bandits in the community.
He said the suspects were said to have been shooting sporadically into the air while vandalising properties belonging to the community and its members.
The suspected criminals allegedly stole motorcycles and other valuables belonging to the residents during the invasion.
Muhammad noted that the Army in reaction to the credible information, swung into action by mobilising troops to the area.
He said, “On sighting the advancing troops, the armed men withdrew hastily and fled into a nearby bush, with possible gunshot wounds sustained in the process.
“A subsequent search and clearance operation within the area led to the recovery of five (5) dane guns and two (2) motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants,” Muhammad said in the statement.
He further confirmed that the Commander 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa has commended the troops for the courage and effort towards repelling the attack by the bandits.
Uwa assured the residents of Majebiyu Village and other neighbouring communities of the Brigade’s committment to mopping up all illegally acquired arms and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the area.
He also urged residents of various communities across the country to always work with security agencies and their operatives to provide credible information that could nip the activities of criminals in the bud.
