The police in Kano have dismantled a bandit syndicate believed to be terrorising communities in Shanono local government area as they attempted to migrate from neighbouring Katsina state.

Acting on credible intelligence from residents of the Farin Ruwa community, operatives of the Kano police command’s anti-kidnapping squad and Shanono division carried out a coordinated tactical operation on Friday night.

During the operation, two suspects alleged to be members of the armed syndicate were arrested.

According to Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, spokesperson of the Kano police command, the suspects are believed to have been collaborating with bandits trying to infiltrate Kano from Katsina.

He said the command has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the extent of their activities and connections.

Kiyawa added that efforts were being intensified to apprehend other members of the group and bring them to justice.

Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the commissioner of police in Kano, commended the vigilance of the Farin Ruwa community for providing actionable intelligence that led to the successful operation.

He urged residents to remain alert and continue to support the police by promptly reporting suspicious activities.

Kiyawa also disclosed that the command had been addressing ongoing clashes between herders and farmers in Barebari ward, Makoda local government area.

He said a series of security engagements led by Mohammed Mani Gwarzo, area commander of Dambatta, were conducted to find lasting solutions to the recurring conflict.

Kiyawa said: “Following these engagements, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori convened a follow-up meeting on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the command headquarters.

“The meeting brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable measures to restore peace and prevent further escalations in the area. The commissioner reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and maintaining law and order.”

The command, he added, remains dedicated to combating crime and ensuring a safe environment across Kano.

Residents of Shanono have repeatedly raised alarm over the infiltration of Katsina-based bandits through bush paths linking both states.

Farmers in the area have complained of persistent attacks, including kidnappings and theft, which have disrupted social and economic activities in the region.
