The Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has ruled out any chance of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ever becoming Nigeria’s president.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists at his Iga Iduganran Palace, the monarch said destiny has not aligned in Atiku’s favour, despite his repeated attempts to occupy the nation’s highest office since 1992.
Akiolu made the remarks as part of activities marking his 22nd year on the throne.
He described President Bola Tinubu’s rise to power as an act of divine will, insisting that his emergence was not by accident.
“The future belongs to God. But let me say it plainly: former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will never be President of Nigeria,” the monarch said.
He commended Tinubu for his leadership qualities, calling him “compassionate and visionary.”
Akiolu added that Tinubu had shown respect and humility after his victory, recalling that “he presented his certificate to me first after winning.”
The traditional ruler urged Nigerians to rally behind the president, saying unity and patience were needed to achieve the country’s goals.
“Lagosians and Nigerians should support him to fulfil God’s purpose for the country,” he added.
