The Ekiti State Government has insisted that political parties must pay a ₦5 million fee before putting up campaign posters, billboards, branding, or jingles ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The order was issued by the Ekiti State Signage and Advertisement Agency through its Director General, Adebisi Adesua.
According to the agency, the new rule will guide how campaign materials are handled in the months leading to the election.
In a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council in Ekiti State, the agency restated that the amount is compulsory.
The document, dated November 12, and titled “Signage Regulations for Political Parties in the State: Fees and Restrictions.” explained that no poster or branding should appear anywhere until the fee is paid.
The agency warned that any party that ignores the instruction risks sanctions under Section 30, Sub-section 1-4 of its establishing law.
It also stressed that the restrictions cover certain public locations where posters must not be pasted.
The letter noted: “payment must be made prior to any form of display of signages/ branding, posters and jingles; the fee applies to all political parties in the state; failure to pay fees contravenes section 30 sub-section 1-4 of the agency law 2007 and may attract punitive measures.”
It further reminded parties that posters must not be placed on “Government establishment buildings, State Secretariat, Public schools and Bridge pier (i.e. Under bridge pillar).”
Political parties were also directed to make all payments through cheque or draft to the agency’s Polaris Bank account, as stated in the notice.
However, the government says the aim is to control indiscriminate posting of materials and protect public structures during the campaign season.
