The Peoples Democratic Party has taken a major step at its national convention in Ibadan, ordering the dissolution of all its structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers.

The announcement came during the session where key decisions on the party’s future were tabled before delegates.

Leaders at the gathering confirmed that the move followed a motion presented by the host governor, Seyi Makinde.

He pushed for the ratification and approval of executive committees already elected in states and zones where congresses had been concluded.

His request was brought before the convention, which serves as the party’s highest platform for decision-making.

Makinde explained that congresses had been carried out nationwide from 2024 to 2025. Those exercises produced officials at the ward, local government, state, and zonal levels, including national ex-officio members.

He stressed that the processes adhered to the Electoral Act 2022, the PDP constitution, and internal guidelines.

According to him, the NEC and NWC had earlier endorsed the conduct of the congresses and the officers that emerged. .

He pointed out that the exercises were judged free and fair across the regions where they successfully held.

However, Makinde made it clear that the situation in five states stood out.

“In the case of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers, the Convention hereby dissolves all party structures at the ward, local government, and state levels.

The Convention has authorized the publication of this decision to serve as official notice to the public.”

National Auditor and member of the NWC, Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, supported the motion on the convention floor, giving it the required procedural backing.

In a related development, POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that the PDP has also expelled FCT Minister Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, and others at the ongoing national convention.
