Police confirm abduction of 25 female students in Kebbi school attack

The police have confirmed that 25 female students were abducted and one person was killed when bandits attacked Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu local government area of Kebbi state.

CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, spokesperson of the Kebbi police command, said the attack occurred at about 4 am on Monday.

Abubakar said the gunmen invaded the school, wielding sophisticated weapons and shooting sporadically.

He further stated that police tactical units responded after receiving a distress call and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.

He said the bandits had already scaled the school fence before abducting 25 students from their hostel.

According to him, one person, identified as Hassan Makuku, was shot dead during the attack.

He said another victim, Ali Shehu, sustained an injury on his right hand.

He added that additional police units, soldiers, and vigilantes had been deployed to the area to track the bandits’ movement and rescue the abducted students.

He said the teams were combing nearby forests and likely escape routes, while appealing to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing security operations.
