The Department of State Services (DSS) has named several suspects it says are linked to attacks on churches in Owo and Okene, alongside filing fresh terrorism charges against seven alleged commanders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

The DSS said the suspects were arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja in three separate suits filed on November 19.

A spokesperson for the DSS, Favour Dozie, said a key suspect, Ibrahim Ali Larabo, is an illegal immigrant from Niger Republic who operated a bureau de change without a licence.

Dozie said the service had also secured the conviction of a terrorist identified as Ismaila, also known as Mai Tangaran.

She said Ismaila coordinated the 2012 attack on police headquarters in Bompai, Kano, and other critical facilities.

According to her,  Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced him after a trial that began in 2017.

She said Ismaila, described as a leader of the Islamic State of West Africa Province, was convicted on a four-count charge under the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act 2013.

She said the court sentenced him to 15 years on the first count and 20 years on each of the remaining counts, with all sentences to run concurrently.

Dozie said trials of two internationally-wanted terror suspects, Mahmud Muhammad Usman and Abubakar Abba, will resume on January 15, 2026.

She said the prosecution of Khalid Al-Barnawi, alleged mastermind of the 2011 UN building bombing, is also ongoing.

She added that five other suspects are standing trial on a nine-count charge over their alleged involvement in the June 5, 2022 attack on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo state.

She sfurther stated that 10 suspects arrested in connection with attacks in Benue and Plateau are also being prosecuted.

She said the service will arraign Abdulazeez Obadaki, also known as Bomboy, described as an ISWAP leader, who allegedly confessed to masterminding the attacks on St Francis Catholic Church in Owo and Deeper Life Church in Okene.
