Former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has called on Nigerians to stand by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following a recent spike in terror activities across the country.
In a statement on Friday, Omokri said the increase in terrorist attacks in the country, is “not coincidental” and is part of a coordinated effort to destabilise Nigeria.
He likened the tactics to those used against former President Jonathan in 2015, saying foreign actors and their local allies are seeking regime change.
Omokri said Nigerians must remain calm and reasoned, warning against emotional reactions and calls for the immediate resignation of the president.
“Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, three times is enemy action,” he quoted Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond, to drive home his point.
He cited recent security incidents, including school abductions, the killing of a general, attacks on churches during livestreams, and assaults on police officers, as evidence of a coordinated strategy.
Omokri said the plan is to create chaos similar to situations in Libya and Sudan, and warned that Nigeria could follow in the footsteps of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger if citizens do not remain vigilant.
He urged Nigerians to “stand by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and be loyal citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
Omokri also advised citizens to exercise their democratic rights during the next general election in fourteen months rather than calling for the immediate resignation of the current administration.
