Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the Malari community in Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, in the early hours of Monday, abducting two residents.
According to reports, the assailants arrived on motorcycles around midnight and operated for approximately 30 minutes before encountering resistance from the Borno State Police crack team, who prevented the insurgents from fully taking over the town.
Confirming the incident, the Borno Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said no lives were lost during the exchange of gunfire.
“There was an attack around 12am this morning in Malari, Konduga Local Government Area. The police crack team did a commendable job in preventing them from invading the town.
“From what I currently know, two men were abducted. Our investigation is ongoing, and once concluded, we will release a comprehensive report,” Daso said.
He added that no police officers were injured in the attack.
Residents described the raid as “coordinated,” with many fleeing their homes before security forces arrived. Some locals suggested that more than two people might have been abducted, as the attackers reportedly passed through residential areas, although this remains unverified.
The incident comes just days after troops of Operation Hadin Kai rescued 12 girls abducted from their families’ farmlands in Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
A statement on the Nigerian Army’s official Facebook page confirmed that the victims were freed on Saturday, 29 November, following a swift, intelligence-led operation.
The attack in Malari underscores the continuing threat posed by Boko Haram in the region despite ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
