Deji Adeyanju, human rights activist, has accused some Nigerian army officers and service chiefs of using insecurity as a business venture.
He alleged that since 2009, elements within the military and security services have frustrated efforts to tackle insecurity in the country.
Writing on Facebook, Adeyanju claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) often provides intelligence prior to attacks, but officers fail to act, and sometimes deliberately withdraw from areas to allow attacks to occur.
“What we have in Nigeria are billionaire generals who are only interested in money-making and not ending insecurity. All fake, fake generals and noise makers,” he said.
Adeyanju’s remarks add to ongoing debates about the effectiveness and accountability of security agencies in addressing Nigeria’s rising insecurity.
