Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Addressing political leaders, senior officials, and invited groups, Fubara openly declared that “Siminalayi Fubara has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC)”, bringing an end to his long affiliation with the PDP.
His statement drew mixed reactions across the state, especially as the political crisis in Rivers has remained unresolved for months.
During the meeting, Fubara noted that his move was driven by the need for a more stable environment to run the affairs of the state.
He hinted that constant internal battles had slowed progress and that it was time to “focus on the real work” his administration was elected to deliver.
Leaders of the APC in the state are expected to stage a formal reception for the governor in the coming days.
Early reactions from party members show excitement as they describe his entry as a significant boost to the APC’s influence in the South-South region.
The PDP in Rivers is yet to release an official statement, but internal consultations are reportedly ongoing as the party evaluates the impact of losing its sitting governor.
Recall that Governor Fubara recently met with President Bola Tinubu on Monday, a meeting that sparked widespread speculation about possible political shifts.
With today’s declaration, many now believe that discussion may have played a key role in the direction the governor has taken.
In a related development, POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported the protracted clash between Governor Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly, a crisis that deepened the cracks within the PDP in the state. His defection appears to be the latest chapter in that long-running conflict.
More updates shortly…
You are welcome on board progressives ship but be ready for the salvos of Obi barking dogs who will anytime from now suddenly turn your enemies.
I started wondering how these politicians can change post with any little breeze. When a co- hunter shot the leg of his colleague hunter what should we termed it. Time will tell.
Criminals, APC is the biggest fraudulent party ever. Billions have been pay to this Governor for defecting, imagine this are tax and oil money used to sponsor all this, when ever this country will descend into chaos there will be no stopping it.
FUBARA NO SPINE BONE
The people supporting the wind of defections blowing across the political atmosphere in Nigeria are enemies of the country because democracy without opposition results in total collapse of governance. APC (ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL CRIMINALS) IS SUCCEEDING IN BRINGING NIGERIA AND NIGERIANS TO THEIR KNEES.
Democracy is dying or collapsing in Nigeria due to one partisan system during APC regime under the leadership of Tinubu
You said it all
If that will bring SIM the second term ambition, the decision it’s in your hand. But he should also considered the feature
He will never succeed in APC for betraying those that supported him during his crisis with Wike and members of state assembly
To our politicians, political parties had become dumping ground. This shows the level of underdevelopment of political actors in the country. Though their defections may have a short time benefits but the consequences will be disastrous in the long term.
Most shameful and sorry, with all humiliation by state of emergency, you bowed to stomach and prostitution politics.
Shame to You and Your Legacy!
I have known that fubara lacked the political will to fight and run the state. He is a betrayer what a premature politician
I just pity Nigerian politicians for playing with the with time bomb cos very soon bad bele will blow even before 2027
It’s very disgraceful seeing Politrickcians trooping into the APC. PDP is in shambles, yes we know but why not join other parties such as YPP, APGA and the others! The people will still follow irrespective of the Party if at all you’re doing then well
If truly he defected. Mark today, he has just signed his down. Apc will not give him returning ticket. He’s going to experience much higher humiliation in his political journey. Mark it down

I pity those people who supported this man, he is not a man enough to lead a state. What a shame .
Politics is all about interested so don’t blame him. Nothing like disgrace in it, is game. play in your favour, leave the rest.
Mumu government
Kai, remain me to move enter APC be dat o…. Diz one wey everybody don move!
It seems APC is really working for the elites except the struggling Nigerians!
God have mercy on the poor celebration the rich and powerful in Nigeria!
Nevertheless, the brought us down to this shameless style of governance when they embrace Buhari’s ineptitude and weakness and advertised APC as paradise!

Nothing like no political opposition, how many parties INEC registered? almost 70 parties, are those ones not in oppostion? Since INEC has nnot deregister any parties, it means we are stil practicing multi party system. so let those other parties form a strong opposition.

Fubara, welcome to the APC family
It’s a shame that you let down your self for a short term achievement and let tye future dark your pride and legacy is destroyed you will understand sooner or later i pray you realise earlier .you cant make it in the All Progressive Congress (APC) after betraying those who stood by you during your battle with wike it’s a pity I pray your know earlier
Bro is seriously going to fight Wike. Let’s see how that self centered predecessor will stop him from completing his 8years in peace. This man is highly intelligent
That’s his business!!!
They say if you can’t beat them you join them and No permanent friend and No permanent enemy in politics, well i can’t blame him because if he stays in PDP his 2nd Term is not sure for him and he has not really enjoy this his first Term and we all know that Wike is APC man putting on PDP clothe, so let’s just wait, watch and see.
This is the most reasonable thing to do at least for now. APC is the only assured and realistic Vehicle for any politician in 2027.
But politically speaking 2027 is still a very long journey. I hope APC will be able to manage the crisis of that year.
Tinubu is at work hehehe, and fubara followed the saying “if you can’t beat them join them'” God will judge all of you according to your ways on what you guys are doing to Nigerian soon.
All the politicians of this country are fighting for their pockets and family…. No one is to be trust… Nobody wants to leave Power in Africa politics… If a whole president of America can step down from power…. Politicians in Nigeria are demons…. Been Christians or Muslim… Thanks God no one be excluded from death….
Politically that is the best thing to do.I have seen it coming before now. That is the best move to have a stable Rivers State government and to beat Wike and his political foes pretending to be his friend.
Congratulations, automatically the siege is over
Fubara is a weak Governor, there is nothing he will do. I think this is the best move for him. I don’t think he will do second term in office.
Honestly, I pity Gov Fubara for the turn of events. I am very sure he didn’t bargain for all these troubles coming his way. I wish he will grow above these problems and turn the tired in his second tenure! I am looking forward to Fubara putting wike and Martin’s in there places.
