Tinubu Speaks on Rescue Efforts for Abducted Oyo Teachers, Pupils

President Bola Tinubu has assured the people of Oyo State that the schoolchildren and teachers abducted by gunmen in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state will be rescued safely and unharmed.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the students and their teachers were taken during coordinated attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the inauguration of the newly remodelled Premier Hotel in Ibadan, the President emphasized that the Federal Government is deploying all available measures, including international collaboration, to secure the victims’ release.

During the event, the President addressed national security challenges and urged South-West governors to preserve the developmental legacy of their founding fathers.

He explained that economic growth can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace and security, noting that his administration has made substantial investments over the past three years to strengthen the nation’s security architecture by enhancing inter-agency coordination, improving intelligence gathering, and expanding technological surveillance.

“I must at this point reassure the good people of Oyo State and indeed the South-West that the Federal Government is seriously addressing the upswing in banditry, kidnapping and associated criminalities across the nation,” President Tinubu said.

“Economic development can only flourish in an atmosphere of peace, stability and security. That is why our administration has continued to invest significantly in strengthening the nation’s security architecture.”

To ensure the success of these security measures, the President called on the public, as well as traditional and faith-based institutions, to remain vigilant and support security agencies through community collaboration and intelligence sharing.

He maintained that the administration’s efforts are already yielding measurable results across several parts of the country and will continue until safety is restored for everyone.

“I urge all citizens to remain vigilant and to work collaboratively with security agencies,” the President added.

“There is undoubtedly a huge role for traditional and faith-based institutions to play in this regard, and I urge them to take the lead through the various channels provided by government. These efforts are yielding measurable results across many parts of the country. We remain committed to ensuring that every Nigerian, every investor, and every visitor can live, work, travel and do business in safety and confidence.”
