Tinubu walked into the chamber of the house of representatives at exactly 3:00pm.
The president was received by Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senate President, and other principal officers of the National Assembly.
Lawmakers from both chambers were seated as the president prepared to lay the 2026 spending proposal before a joint sitting of the Senate and the House.
Security around the National Assembly complex was heightened ahead of the president’s arrival.
The presentation of the 2026 appropriation bill marks the formal commencement of the legislative process for the consideration of the federal government’s spending plan for the fiscal year.
After the presentation, the budget estimates are expected to be referred to the Senate and House committees on appropriations for detailed scrutiny.
The committees are expected to engage ministries, departments, and agencies during budget defence sessions before submitting their reports to the National Assembly.
