A senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Appolos Dandaura, is under investigation over allegations of forged academic documents.
Dandaura, a Commandant serving in the Intelligence Squad of NSCDC under the Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, is accused of using forged certificates to secure employment and benefit from irregular career advancement.
The allegations followed a petition submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) by Joseph Aliu, a human rights lawyer.
The petition, dated December 23, 2025, urged the commission to investigate what it described as “grave allegations of fake certificates and undue career progression” involving Dandaura.
Copies of academic statements of results purportedly issued by the Nasarawa State College of Agriculture were attached to the petition and marked as exhibits.
The petition also included a purported certificate from the University of Calabar bearing Dandaura’s name but lacking a matriculation number, which the petitioner said was inconsistent with certificates from the institution.
Aliu said the allegations raise serious public interest and national security concerns, noting that integrity within law enforcement agencies is critical to public trust and operational effectiveness.
He warned that allowing officers to rise through the ranks on the basis of questionable credentials could undermine discipline and professionalism within the service.
Invoking the Freedom of Information Act, the petitioner asked the ICPC to obtain and release certified true copies of the academic certificates submitted by Dandaura at the point of recruitment.
According to Peoples Gazette, he also requested certified records of the officer’s career progression and promotion letters.
Aliu warned that failure by the ICPC to act or disclose the requested records would be interpreted as obstruction, adding that judicial intervention would be sought in the interest of justice and public accountability.
