Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, are expected to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This development is being presented as the collective decision of Kano voters and key political stakeholders.
The move would see both leaders leave the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), the platform that swept them into power in the last election.
The Director-General of the Protocol Directorate of the Kano State Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, made this known while speaking in a video that has since gained wide attention.
He stated that consultations had been held with influential figures within the state’s political structure.
Rogo explained that discussions were held with the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and prominent members of the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
According to him, the outcome of those engagements was a clear agreement on the next political direction for the state.
“After our meeting with the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and other members of Kwankwasiyya, we agreed that Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba K. Yusuf should join the APC,” he said.
He added that the decision reflects what the people of Kano want, stressing that the political future of the state must align with the interests of its voters.
Rogo described the proposed defection as a strategic move aimed at strengthening Kano’s position at the national level.
Kwankwaso remains one of the most influential political figures in northern Nigeria, with a strong grassroots following.
Governor Yusuf, his longtime ally and political protégé, currently controls the state’s executive arm, making the potential move highly significant.
If confirmed, the defection would mark a major boost for the APC in Kano and could reshape political calculations ahead of future elections.
